how we would advertise it

bus's,bus stops,billboards,magazines,newspapers,television, online adverts
this gives us a massive variety of places to get our film shown, more places more chance of people going to see the film.

how we'd advertise the product

billboards,bus adverts,Television,Posters, bus stop adverts,magazines,local newspaper,online adverts

if we could go back

if we could go back i would get a decent actor to play the male role instead of using myself.
organise the music slightly better so if i ask musicians to help they can do so quickly and efficiently and to have more time to remaster the music to make it perfect with the film.

what we have to improve

title size should be slightly smaller.
Music should have been less upbeat.
editing needs a bit more work in some places, too quick or too long between cuts

Finalising

The last few lessons we have managed to get all the editing done, the title on with there effects we have also got the music we need in sync with the footage. We also designed a product logo to go at the start of our opening.

location troubles

i think the location we chose was good but i did not take into account the amount of people that actually use All Saints passage. in some ways the busy city scene adds something to the thriller but it is very distracting and annoying when pedestrians decide to look straight at the camera or get in the way of the actors moving about. In total it took about 2 and a half hours to completely film the scene because we had to wait for people to move past the camera and have as little sound as possible before we could start filming. i think the location was good because All Saints is a fairly small passsage way where someone could easily get robbed if it weren't so crowded which really is the sort of feeling we wanted to give not having the character being robbed while 5+ pedestrians wander past wondering what we're doing.

inspiration for thriller

the idea behind our thriller is a cross between the film 'Catch me if you can'/chase thrillers. the music and sound effects are very bassy and techno based. adding in miscellanious sounds during the chasing scene to create a weird confusing atmosphere for the audience.

First Draft of piece

the first draft ofthe thriller piece was not a success as we did not include half of the things we needed too. the final product was without music, sound effects or Titles. by the end of this week when the final piece is fully due in i will have edited together and put on all the music sound effects and titles and make the piece alot more professional then it currently is.

Final music

All music has been written by Pat and edited/overlayed using Garageband and other Garageband sounds. the music i have written is all played on an acoustic guitar and consists of bass tracks, strumming patterns and harmonies. i will then layer in Violins/other stringed instruments and brass instruments just to make a better sense of tension in the scene. the music was recorded on school site in a hallway as i could not use the music block because of music exams.

Final Title idea

This is our final Idea for our titles it is the Lucida Bright font with Demibold and sharp texture added to the font the size of the fonts will be around 72pt. finally with layer effects in photoshop we added drop shadows to surround the font, a Bevel to make the font tighter and finally a Gradient overlay to make the contrast between the light colour at the top and the dark colour at the bottom.

Titles

We have started to create all the titles that we are going in include in the sequence. There is a list of the names we are using in a different blog. Pat has been doing the majority of the titles while i edited together the footage we shot over the weekend 12th-13th of February

Taken opening sequence

how does it fit with genre: no defining genre from opening credits, could become any type of film.
has a very similar opening sequence to 'The Game' directed by David Fincher. opening sequence shows film reels of a small girls birthday (most likely main characters daughter). Sub Genre: we cannot tell there is any sub genres from the opening credits because there is only a short film of a birthday then a face on view of who must be the main character.

Tittle sequence

We have made a title sequence for our production logo. It uses spirals and bright colours for visual effect. We have made the title sequence in photoshop and we have edited it in final cut also we added eery music for a thriller effect.

Filming over the weekend

We did all our filming over the weekend 12th-13th of February at All Saints Passage near the town center, we got a friend of Pats called Jess to play the female character in the sequence and Pat playing the male character and me as the Cinematographer. We all worked well as a team getting the majority of the shooting done over a couple of hours. We improvised a crane shot by using the tripod and lifting it into the air and leaning it forward, we got a high angle shot that looks like it was done by using a crane so it increased the range of camera angles we used in the sequence.

Film Sequence

We have edited together the footage that we shot over the weekend. we are still deciding whether to re-shoot the footage as some of the shots have to be cut shorter then we intended due to mess ups. we also don't have some of the shots we wanted, and our sequence when edited together is shorter then we wanted so we need to increase the play tim of it so we can edit in all of the titles and credits.

It includes piano,Guitars,Violins and a drum kit potentially. i will be getting friends to record the piano and Violin parts and play the guitar parts myself. Taken Opening Sequence

In the opening sequence the main character is connected to the genre of a thriller by his apperence of being very dark, he is wearing dark coloured clothes and he is sitting in n a low light room which makes his apperence seam more sinister then if he was sitting in a really bright sun filled room.

Taken opening sequence

Sub Genre: we cannot tell there is any sub genres from the opening credits because there is only a short film of a birthday then a face on view of who must be the main character. we cannot see whether it is a Hybrid with other genres either.

Thriller Genre

A genuine, standalone thriller is a film that provide thrills and keeps the audience cliff-hanging at the "edge of their seats" as the plot builds towards a climax. The tension usually arises when the character(s) is placed in a menacing situation, a mystery, or a trap from which escaping seems impossible. Life is threatened, usually because the principal character is unsuspectingly or unknowingly involved in a dangerous or potentially deadly situation.

Preliminary Task video

Continuity editing

Continuity editing is the main type/style of editing in cinema and television. The purpose of continuity editing is to smooth over the inherent discontinuity of the editing process and to establish a logical coherence between shots.

180° rule is a basic guideline in film making that states that two characters in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other.

Matching on action refers to a film editing technique where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action.

Shot reverse shot (or shot/countershot) is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character (often off-screen), and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character.
